Reel fishing equipment came about while I was running a charter vessel out to Gt Barrier & the Mokes while chasing the biggest fish of each species in extreme conditions. We were tired of losing fish trying to land them with inferior gear so we started to experiment with our own ideas. The concept of a backbone for strength was developed into the designs we make today. The patented stainless backbone that all Reel equipment has routered into the handle ensures that you will land your fish no matter how large. It has taken 5 years to perfect the design to ensure not only strength but also to enhance the look of your cockpit with matching gear that is pleasing to the eye.

All Reel fishing equipment is hand made with NZ Rimu soaked in Raw Linseed oil to prevent splitting & to shed water,316 surgical grade stainless steel that wont rust & NZ braid from suppliers who also supplied several America’s cup teams. There are no screws, bolts or nails to rust or come loose or break. Even if you break or split the timber handles (only from excessive weight) you wont lose that fish of a life time because of the solid back bone running up the length of the handle & butted into the timber by a 90 degree bend at the end. If you happen to damage or split a piece of our equipment we can replace the handles.
Reel… equipment was put to the test by commercial long liners fishing for Blue nose & Harpuka. They were told to be very hard on the equipment using it day in day out in the very brutal working conditions that is deep sea long lining, I told them to try & break it. The gear came through with flying colours landing fish way above the classes they were designed for. In 12 months & thousands of fish they split only one 10 mm gaff on a Mako shark estimated at over 200 kg. They still managed to hold the shark with no other gaffs The best example was a 90kg Hapuka pulled in with an 8 mm gaff. It took 2 guys to heave it in. The gaff survived…Hapuka didn’t.
You will not find landing equipment on the market that will match ours.
The 8mm Gaffs are made of one length of 8 mm Round bar so you cant lose the hook The nets are made from one continuous piece of 8 mm round bar that runs right up the handle & is reinforced with a stainless tube collar. You won’t get the spinning net or have it break off. So you don’t have to damage that trophy Snapper or ones being released.
10 & 12 mm Gaffs are made from 316 square bar folded on its edge for maximum strength,16 & 20mm Flying Gaffs made from 304 spring steel sq bar. We do personal engraving on the handles so you can have your boats name or your nick name burned into the handles to really personalise your gear.
Reel… serious fishing equipment is guaranteed for 10 years in normal use. If you cut or damage the bindings then send it back & we will rewhip it for no charge just postage & handling.
Landing nets are designed for fish up to 25 kg. 8 mm gaffs are for large snapper & the largest Kingfish. 10 mm are for Tuna & other fish up to 100 kg. 12mm,16mm & 20 mm gaffs are for Marlin, Broadbill, Sharks & Blue fin Tuna.
